I've got a w2k3 guest vm running on ESX3. In the memory performance graphs of that vm are there any particular items I can view that might indicate if I need to allocate more memory to the vm?
Under the performace tab you can select "change chart options".
Inside that you can hilight memory and select which memory options you want to chart.
You would probably want to select "memory active" and "memory consumed".
Add those counters and apply the change.
In general you never want to allocate too much memory to a VM, only give them what they need. The best indicator is inside the guest OS, use Task Manager and Perfmon (Available MB) to monitor how much free memory your guest has. Here's some good memory reads...
