Hi we have a VM with Novell 6 and and the nic is just running a 100 Mbps...
Is it normal or is there a way to have it to run at 1Gbps?
Regards
Jon

The link speed reported by Netware is irrelevant. VMware will always use the full bandwidth of the NIC. It is true that there is not a vmxnet driver for Netware. The best driver to use is CNEAMD.LAN. During backups, we push our Netware VMs to around 400 mb/sec even though the CNEAMD driver reports 10mb/sec in VMware.
If you are using the VMXNET or VLANCE this is normal.
The NIC displays 100MBit regardless of the physical speed - no need to worry.
If you want 1GBit in the guest (though the actual speed won't differ much) change the guest VM to use the e1000.
Sorry, but where I can change that?
In the OS itself, int the vmx... ?
Thanks
Jon
in the vmx file (ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000")
Here's the question I posted to VMware:
"Does VMware support a 1GB NIC Driver for Netware 6.5 yet? As far as I
know, you only have a 100 meg driver for NW 6.5..."
Here's their response"
"Unfortunately, according to documentation on our website, there's no future plans to develop VMxnet driver for Netware OS."

I had contacted VMware in the past and they told me they had no plans to develop a GB NIC for Netware 6.5...
chucks0 is right, reported speed is totally irrelevant & cneamd is the best drievr to use
