Download the application, for either Windows or Linux. Install the application. Done.

What VMware Product are you using?

If using VMware Workstation see the VMware Workstation documentation about "Configuring a Dual-Boot Computer for Use with a Virtual Machine"

Do you want to virtualize your existing operating systems into VMware? If so you can migrate XP using VMware converter. The linux machine you can image with a utility like Acronis or Ghost and image down to a Virtual Machine.
