Is there a way to install WMware tools on a Hyper-V guest OS? We use hyper-v (small company) and we back up to Unitrends. They can mount our hyper-v virtual servers on their vmware hosts, however every time we spin them up we have to install vmware tools manually. I wanted to find a way to install this on the hyper-v servers so that the tools were already present when they get brought up on VMware.

We have tried running the setup64.exe from the mounted ISO, and copied directly to the vm, but once it starts, it immediately shutsdown with no error/pop-up. Its been a while since I have managed vmware, and it seems the MSI files are not part of the ISO anymore.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

VMware tools offer a variety of support models and even supports Hyper-V guest machines.

If you are trying to run the vmtool setup while the VM running on Hyper-V, it won't let you do it directly.

You can either do the installation while this VM running on vmware.
