VMware Tools in Linux and fstab

Has anyone had a problem with their linux VMware Tools clobbering /etc/fstab everytime you run vmware-config-tools.pl ?

We have a situation here where we put NFS mounts into /etc/fstab, which then promptly disappear after I run vmware-config-tools.pl. There is another file in /etc/ called fstab.BeforeVMwareToolsInstall and it looks like VMware Tools reverts the current fstab back to the contents in this file.

Anyone else seeing this?

You have a look on article "[fstab modifications gone after upgrade VMware tools|http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2008/08/22/fstab-modifications-gone-after-upgrade-vmware-tools/|fstab modifications gone after upgrade VMware tools]" in block "Yellow Brick"

it's a known issue and vmware is working on a fix. so before doing upgrades be sure to backup the fstab!

I found a temporarily workaround for this issue. If you make your modifications to /etc/fstab.BeforeVMwareToolsInstall and then run a vmware-config.pl, it will regenerate /etc/fstab for you with whats in /etc/fstab.BeforeVMwareToolsInstall.

But this is not an excuse for VMware to procrastinate fixing the issue.

We have had this problem for a long time, and it happens often. I don't know why vmware tools insists on clobbering our fstab but it is extremely annoying Smiley Sad

This was happening to us all the time. I think this is the patch that fixed it for us:

Although a recent patch appears to address the same issue:
