VMware Tools for Linux VM

Hello everyone,

Where can I a RPM package or tar file of VMware Tools for Linux?

You can also simply take your VM, choose the Install Tools menu option, and mount the cdrom (mount /dev/cdrom /mnt, for example). THen, under /mnt will be botht he RPM and the tar, which you can do with what you will.

On the ESX server, look under:

/vmimages/tools-isoimages/

It depends on the version of Linux that you are running (you can probably guess the question I am about to ask...)

What version of Linux are you running?

In /vmware/tools-isoimages there is a file linux.iso, you could try that one. But the method mcowger suggested using a VM may be the better approach.

I had incorrectly assumed that you were aware that you can install VMware Tools by VM->Install VMware Tools, and I thought that you were looking for an .iso image of the appropriate files.
