We moved a guest vm from an esx server to a windows box via VM Converter. The mouse is very erratic on the screen. When I try to install the vmware tools it says "installing vmware tools" but does not actually do anything. I actually do not know if the tools are installed on the host or on the guest. Is there a way to force an install by downloading the .msi or something?
Thanks
What is the guest OS you are trying to install vmtools on? Windows? Linux?

Windows 2003. Yesterday I navigated to the .iso files and clicked the install.exe and it updated the vmtools. The queer thing is that the mouse can go from the vm to the host desktop with no problem. I am not sure it is supposed to be able to do that.
When vmtools are installed properly, the mouse can go from inside the VM on a console window to the host box you're on no issues. If the tools aren't installed you have to do the ctrl+alt combination.
