Is it possible to configure a different network adapter for my guest OS. For some odd reason, the ability to ping this server is intermittent although we have several guests OS running on the host and they all connect to the same virtual switch.
One guess OS periodically just looses it's connection to the network. If we restart the guess OS it is fine for a while.
I'm thinking the adapter maybe flakey. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.
You can edit the VMX file for the VM and add ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000" (assuming you just have one adapter). You'll then get an Intel NIC in the VM and you'll have to reset the IP addressing on the "new" NIC. It may also help to update the VMware tools install. Which host product are you using (VMware Server / ESX)?

We're currently at VMWare ESX Server 3.0.1 build-32039 running on HP DL380G4 Proliant servers with 2-3.60GHz Intel Xeon Processors with 6GB or RAM.
The guest OS is Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition
