I configured a VM with dual CPU and 4 GB (4096 MB) of RAM. The OS is Win 2003 R2 SP2. Upon checking the properties in OS, the RAM shows 3.75 GB!
Other VMs (single CPU) shows the exact amount assigned to them not less.
The platform is ESX 3.0.2 with VC 2.5
Any suggestions?
Which OS you have on the other VM ? a 32bit edition ?
I had similar problem with Win 2003 R2 Sp2 Standard Edition and sometimes (not every times) I've solved adding
/PAE
in the boot.ini file

What does this switch do?
Physical Address Extension (PAE) and
Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) and limitations of using memory beyond the 4-gigabyte
(GB) range that is inherent to 32-bit operating systems.

I tried the PAE with no luck, memory still shows 3.75 GB. So I increased it to 5 GB and added the PAE. After the reboot the memory shows 4.75 GB!! So who is taking this 0.25 GB and why?
At this point I think it's more probably a Windows problema rather then a VMWare one ...
have you installed all the Windows Update patch and Service Pack on your OS ?
