VM Guest OS - Mac OS

Does anyone know if Mac OS is supported on a esx 3.5 vm. We are developing a iphone application and we have to have Mac os for our code builds. Our developers want us to buy a Apple X Server, but we are a windows shop. Is this supported on 4.0?

If there are any unsupported or supported solutions please send them my way.

Completely different track, but perhaps consider getting a Mac Mini. Starting at $599 if you supply your own keyboard, mouse, monitor. While not a virtual machine solution, you will have a completely Apple supported platform for developing iPhone apps. And although it's not the fastest machine, I would imagine it would be sufficient to develop iPhone apps. Maxing the memory to 3GB or 4GB (depending on the age of the Mini) would set you back less than $100. Besides eBay and Craigslist, take a look at the refurb section of Apple's store. I just got a refub Mac Mini for my mother for less than $500. And if it's fast enough, you could get several Minis for the price of one xServe. Smiley Wink

Hi,

No this is not supported. The apple EULA demands that OS X is run on apple hardware when run from within a virtual machine.

That is the only legally valid configuration. So ESX is by definition not a supported platform.

Your developers are correct in asking for an XServe as that way you can actually run OS X as a virtual machine legally under VMware Fusion.
