VM Converter to create clone of Host OS

I have a W2K3 VM running one small application - I would like to use converter to create a copy of this so that I can uninstall the app and use the "plain" VM for another application.

My thought was to run converter and move a copy of the VM into the ESX cluster, bootup the VM, change hostname, IP and then rejoin the domain.

Can anyone confirm that this process would be ok? - Will the windows SID change when I rejoing the VM to the domain.

I should probably just create a couple of "builds" and have them ready to clone when needed...

Any help/comments appreciated.

If you have a VC server you could clone to a template and then use sysprep when you deploy the template.

The method you mentioned should be OK but you may want to try the newsid app (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897418.aspx) Remember to keep the "new" system isolated from the network before changing the SID

If you are running hosts attached to VC server you really should look into creating templates for the purposes of deployment.
