VM Converter - cold move VM from ESX to ESX : 97 % and then fail

Hi,.

Trying to import a bunch of VM's from one ESX3.01 server to another ESX 3.01 server : gets to 97 % and then fails .

All vm's fail on 97 %

Fails with : an unrecognized error has occured

Does this on every VM i try to import

VM's are all powered off

Using Vmware Converter 3.00

Any idea's ?

At your case, I like to use VC to do this kind of job.

1. add those two ESX hosts into same datacenter.

2. right click VM name, then follow Migrate . . .

You may also try to Backup VM using esxRanger, then manually restore/configure this VM.

VM converter is not mutual enough to me to use.

I like to use converter to convert VMs running in VMware Server into Virtual Infrastructure 3.

VMware Converter is a totally workable method for cold migrating virtual machines between hosts in instances where you want to grow, or shrink, a disk at the same time or have a vm with snapshots and you want to capture the current state.

I am not sure what not mutual enough means but it works just fine.

jsadie: Are the virtual machine w2K? are you trying to change the drive size? Falures at 97% seems to be a common issue, when there are issues, with Converter.

You could try to boot the virtual machine with the Converter coldboot.iso and initiate a clone that way.
