V2V Migration

Hi ,

As we are plan to migrate existing virtual machines to our new environment.

Existing virutal machines are running on five HP physical server

New environment is Dell Blade Servers

Can you please guide me how to migrate existing virtual machines to our new Dell Blade Server.

The 5 HP servers are grouped into single vsphere logical cluster how to migrate those virutal machines to our new dell blade server because this going to be new environment after the migration we plan to decommission our existing HP physical box.

Please let me know which migration methodology can i go for above V2V migration.

If you have vCenter you can connect the source and destination host and use the migrate function (with VM powered off).

Otherwise you can use Converter or simple any file copy utility (like SCP).

I want to migrate all the irtual machines in Live window (without downtime)

In this case hosts must see the same storage.

And CPU must to be compatible with vMotion or at least with an EVC baseline.

Of course you need vCenter and at least the 4.1 Essential Plus license (to have vMotion license).

How to migrate the existing virtual machines because this blade servers are not in the member of existing vsphere cluster.

1) Do you want to add this blade server to the existing vsphere cluster and moving the virtual machines and stoped the DRS and HA

Or which method is good for migrate the virtual machines to our new environment

You have to move in the same datacenter.

But you can keep a different cluster.

vMotion can also work across clusters (if CPU are compatible).
