Unable to generate the New SID for Win 2003 x64 SP2 Machine

Hi to All!

We have noticed that the SIDs of the all vms deployed from the Clone Image are having the same SID.

We tried to change the same with the Microsoft Utility NewSID.EXE, But even after successfull completion of that utility also the SID was same.

What will be the workaround for the same?

Thanks

We have noticed that the SIDs of the all vms deployed from the Clone Image are having the same SID.

If you do a clone without customization the Windows SID remain the same.

To change also the SID, you have to install Sysprep files in your VC and use the customize function.

See template for more info:

Thanks for your immediate reply.

I am completely agree to your reply.

But the thing now is that we are having number of virtual machines with the Same SID.

How we can change those all machines SIDs? (We tried NewSID but it is not changing the SID)

Thanks

NewSID can change the SID (and also the hostname).

You need a reboot.

Note that regarding SIDs, Microsoft does not support images that are prepared using NewSID, we only support images that are prepared using SysPrep.

We restarted the several time.

But still the sid is same.

One thing we observed while running the SID tool, it is giving the OLD and New SIDs which is going to apply on system, but its not giving.

Maybe the problem is related to x64 version.

On sysinternals forum there are a lot of post about similar problems.

You can also try to use a unattended sysprep configuration.

Right.

Could be a big problem.

In any case you have to do a VM reboot.

You can try to use only the customize option and sysprep inside VC (like for templates).

No other ideas. In any case Microsoft only support sysprep.

the SID is only used when logging on locally, when the guest is joined to a domain a new GUID is generated. if you do need a unique SID then use Sysprep or NEWsid
