Ubuntu 7.10 Server "hw csum failure" after vmware-tools 3.0.2-81860

Hi,

on ESX 3.0.2 after I installed the VMware Tools with official support for Ubunu 7.10 I get the following error message when pinging a host with its DNS name:

\[ 1936.xxxxxx \] : hw csum failure.

I don't get this message when I ping IP addresses.

Before I installed Vmware-Tools-81860 which come with ESX-1003527 patch I didn't have this problem.

To check if this has somwthing todo with my current installation I installed Ubuntu 7.10 form scratch and added the now VMware tools. Unfortunately I got the same error message.

Any Idea of how to fix this, or if this is a known issue?

I was having this problem after installing vmware-tools 3.0.3.

I upgraded my kernel to the latest one available for gutsy, rebooted, and the problem is resolved. Of course gutsy is end-of-lifed in 2 days, so its time to upgrade to hardy anyways!

Hello,

If you move to the Open VMware Tools the problem will also go away. Your VMware tools is basically to old for the kernel you are using.
