USB device problems

Hi everyone,

I have just set up a new VM environment with ESX4 Essentials containing 2 x Server 2008 VM's. Also have a separate PC running vCentre, all working fine except from USB. I have added a USB device to each VM, started them up, connected my USB hard drive to the vCentre PC and the VM's can't see the drive........?

I have tried shutting the VM's down and starting them back up in case the device needs to be present on startup, but nothing......?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks

Adam

Hi

Have you added a USB controller to the VM's virtual hardware?

Hi,

Yes, I shut the VM's down then added a USB controller to each of them but doing that didn't make any difference.

Maybay you can try:

  • Shut down the vm

  • Disable USB 2.0 support

  • Restart the vm

  • Insert the USB drive (this gives the expected driver error)

  • Shut down the vm

  • Re-enabe USB 2.0

  • Restart the vm

The below is from the release notes.

New USB Pass-Through for Virtual Machines

Although you can add USB controllers to virtual machines, attaching USB devices is not supported.
