Timesync slip - Guest VM Novell OES(linux)

Hi All,

I have got 8 VM guest machines (Novell OES SLES) running in VI3 ESX3.1 & the they keep losing timesync (time keeps slipping by 3 or 4 mins).

I have set the NTPD service on all of the guest machines to a source external to VI3 (e.g. an NTP server on our network), restarting the NTPD service contacts the NTP server and gets the correct time, running NTPDATE also does the same but if I do not manually intervene the time slips out of sync.

I have read lots of different ways to setup time sync sources but am now a little confused wether I should set the guest to get it's time from the Host via VMWare Tools & also there are threads suggesting edditing grub boot files!

Help! Is there any official way of setting up time sources for SLES VM guests?

TIA

Danny

Check out:

My interpretation is that using vmware tools to sync time is the way to go, but there are plenty of options.
