The best setting for VM created with Workstation 6.5

Hello,

I'm wondering what are the best settings for a VM that is going to be used on an ESX server. I'm using Workstation 6.5. When creating a Custom VM, the ESX compatibility option only shows up when selection WS 5 as compat level. Is that the best way to create a VM, or is another set of choices better now?

Thank you,

Bas

If it is being created directly for ESX then I would use the Workstation v5 with the check box ESX compatible checked. Doing that will give it the most comparable virtual hardware that will match up with ESX. You could do 6.5 and use vmware converter to move it over to ESX but it would be cleaner to use v5 as the choice. No need to put in the sound/usb drivers if they aren't going to get used on ESX...
