The MKS plugin doesn't work

ESX 3.01. Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Kubuntu (32 bit). The plugin had installed with no problem, is registered (can see it in about:plugins), but all I see is a blank rectangle instead of the console. Tried it on both system-supplied and downloaded Firefox, witout any extensions too. No luck. I'm currently accessing the ESX via virtual Windows desktop, which is kind of stupid...

Have a quick read of these threads, it's usually missing libstdc+5 (libstdc6 is the default on new distros but libstdc+5 is required for the MKS plugin) or a missing/incoreectly place plugin directory.

It's defintely possible to get it to work with Firefox 2.

Thanks. I've checked with ldd, and it looks like I do have all the needed dependencies installed, libstdc++5 and all. Still no luck.

likewise. I get a white rectangle box in the console tab.

using:

firefox 2.0.0.4

I have /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5

The following produces no output.. so I should have the required libraries:

\# ldd ~/.mozilla/plugins/libmks.so | grep not

\# ldd ~/.mozilla/plugins/viewer | grep not

\# ldd ~/.mozilla/plugins/remotemks | grep not

Is there an updated resolution to this issue? I know it is still experimental, but it is necessary in my environment for Linux based administration of and console.

Which flavor of Linux are you using?

I'm running Ubuntu and I fix my issue creating a symlink for file that were placed in wrong position.

In my case, in Ubuntu, Firefox use as plugin directory /usr/lib/firefox/plugin when the install of the console (the Firefox extensions) place the file for the plugun undir "homedir"/.mozilla/plugin.

So make a symlink to your correct plugin dir, in my case:

ln -s /home/yourhome/.mozilla/plugin/libmsk.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugin

ln -s /home/yourhome/.mozilla/plugin/lviewer /usr/lib/firefox/plugin

ln -s /home/yourhome/.mozilla/plugin/remotemks /usr/lib/firefox/plugin
