Templates -- Customization

Unable to find Microsoft-supplied Sysprep files required to customize this virtual machine.

I have read the user manual and reseached the VMTN knowledge base as well as the discussion forums and have not seen this asked or answered.

I cannot tell where the sysprep files for my xp template need to go

I have tried them on the VIM server and where the VM Center interface resides; I have tried them under document and settings/all users/vmware//sysprep/xp

I have tried them under //resources/windows/sysprep/xp

to no avail

where is the customization routine looking for this software?

thanks

Tom

They need to go into

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter 2.0\sysprep\1.1

note that application data is a hidden directory normally

This seems to bee the newest topic relating to that theme, so I'm gonna use that, too...

Well, I got the same problems, on the costumization page during cloning a vmware I can't choose the buttons for customization.

I've made a few screeners, just to show that I made the things described in the manual.

This is the problem I got:

here to see, that I copied the sysprep- files into the directory they belong to.

so, what the heck can I do?

Might it be, because I am using a german version of WindowsXP (base for VirtualInfrastructure Server) ? So that the Client cannot find the directory or searches the wrong (english path) ?

Thanks in advance !

Tom:

Folder "C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\1.1" is used to placed for Windows 2000 sysprep, if you want customerize your XP, please put Sysprep.exe under "C:\Documents and Setting\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\xp".

Tom,

Here is how it works....

Download the Windows 2000 sysprep files from

Extract the sysprep files to \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\1.1 on your VCMS.

These sysprep files will work for 2000/xp/2003.

If you are like me and like to use the latest and greatest you can go and download the XP/2003 sysprep files and place them in their individual folders (xp or svr2003)

.

See Appendix B in the "Basic Administation Guide" for more details
