VMWare KB1037959 provides guidelines for Microsoft clustering on VMWare, but does not seem to cover SQL Server 2012 "Always on" replica groups.
That KB article sets a limit of 2 nodes for MSCS clusters, but also states that "SQL Mirroring is not considered by VMware to be a clustering solution. VMware fully supports SQL Mirroring on vSphere with no specific restrictions."
In SQL 2012, replica groups are a combination of the Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) failover monitor and SQL database mirroring. Yo have to install the "Microsoft Fail Over Cluster" role to implement the SQL replica groups, butyou don't have to any shared disks.
I haven't been able to find any guidance on use of SQL 2012 replica groups on VMWare. I am hoping it is supported without any restrictions (as long as you don't use a shared disk for quorum) but a strict reading of KB1037959 leads to a limitation of two nodes.
Can anybody shed more light on this?
