SLES 9 and ESX 3.5 - Problems with VMWareTools

Hi,

I moved a SLES 9 VM from an ESX 3.01 host to an ESX 3.5 host. Everything was working nicely until an update of the guest OS from kernel 2.6.5-7.286 to 2.6.5-7.208. Now I am unable to install/upgrade the VMWareTools, the error message says there are no pre-build modules for this kernel.

The old VMWareTools (build 32039) are still working. Is there any need for the new tools? If so, do I have to compile them myself - I don't have the kernel source installed at the moment.

Best regards,

Dirk

You've just answered to your question ....

install kernel-source and re-run the VMWare tools installation.

Hello,

didn't really answer my question if it was necessary to update, but I did so anyway. Worked nicely after installing the kernel source and some tweaking after the vmware-tool update with the Xserver settings.

Thanks,

Dirk
