Recommend some small VM for testing ping

Hi I have ESXi with several VMs inside. The ESXi's RAM is not that big. In this environament, I want to create some device as VM inside in order to test ping connection. If I create windows VM like win8, it sitll occupy some RAM. Anyone can recommend some small VM for this purpose? Thank you

Tiny Core Linux is just about as small as you can get.
