Problem with Ubuntu 8.10 Server (guest) and VMware Tools with Torrentflux

I finally got a motherboard working with ESXi, Great . The Asus Crosshair, that I used before, couldnt handle heavy load, resulting in a disconnection of the datastore.

Now I encountered a new problem.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 Server as guest (tried 8.04 also, same problem)

and I installed the LAMP server. I want to use the guest as a torrent

client, so some of my friends can take avantage of my bandwith through

the webserver. For this I installed Torrentflux on the guest.

Torrentflux is a bittorrent php client that makes users able to add and

controls torrents via a web server. It works great without vmware

tools, but vmware tools adds a faster NIC. When I install vmware tools,

I cannot open the the index.php file anymore. Instead firefox ask me

where I want to save index.php. This happens with any .php file on the

site.

To install vmware tools I followed several guides, but with the same result :

My motherboard is Asus M2NPV-VM

Onboard sata controller MCP-51

Network adaptor Intel Pro 1000 GT

Whats very strange is, with my other motherboard (Asus Crosshair, the

one that couldnt handle heavy load) I did not run into this problem. It

had Nvidia network controllers onboard, and vmware tools worked

perfectly.

Is there anyone who have any idea of what is wrong with my config ?

Thanks in advance

Jaev

Hello,

Try using the Merged Tools as one option. But the installation of tools should not affect firefox. It sounds like PHP needs to be reconfigured within the VM. It sounds like it can not serve up PHP pages anymore. I would review your php config.
