Poor Network Performande on Windows Guest

Hi all.

I'm doing some performance tests with virtual machines on my network.

Consider the following scenario:

2 ESX 3.5

4 Virtual Machines (2 Win2003 and 2 Ubuntu. Each ESX have 1 Win VM and 1 Ubuntu VM.

All physical NICs are on the same switch (is a gigabit switch)

Well, I'm try to transfer a file with 36MB.

So, when I do a scp from a Ubuntu VM to my laptop, the download takes about 19 seconds. But, the same file from a Win VM download takes 7 or 8 minutes. (my laptop isnt in the same switch)

I repeat the test to another ESX server, and I have the same time values.

Any ideas?

Hugs,

Eduardo

Are you having transfer problem from both Windows VM ?

Where are running the VM ?

Can you try to scp a file from Windows to Linux on the same esx host ?

Can you try to scp the same file form Windows to Linux on different esx hosts ?

Post your network configuration of all VM's, of both esx and of your laptop.

Non problem for the signature .... i've taken it from another user months ago .... Smiley Wink

Hi rriva. Well, last week I finally solve my issue.

The problem was a connection between switches and the switch where ESX switch was connected was overloaded.

So, I change the port of my ESX switch to core switch. With this change, the connection goes to 1000Mbit, before was 100Mbit. 😕 Also switch core have more resources available.

Thanks.
