I have a windows XP desktop that is running specialized software for our badging system. I VMed the system and went into device manager and specified the MAC address of the physical system. When I try to run the application it is asking to be re-registered. I'am I using the correct procedure to spoof the MAC address on the VM? I verified the MAC was correct when I did an ipconfig /all.Or is there a step that I am missing?
Thanks
What is macshift?

What kind of virtualization product are you using?
With ESX you cannot spoof a generic MAC address from ESX, you must do it inside the VM (a free tool could be http://devices.natetrue.com/macshift/).

I am using ESX 3.5. I changed the MAC address inside the VM. I went to device manager->Network Adaptors->advanced and then typed in the network address.
I think that it does not work. Try to use macshift.
Are you sure that le license is on MAC address? Maybe is on CPUID?
Andre
What is macshift? I am not 100% sure that the software is tied to the MAC but I am taking a good guess.

I am going to download the program and give it a shot.
You may also want to check out this Virtual MAC Tool here to change new settings and if you need to alter MAC Spoofing policy on the vSwitch or port group, you have to edit it accept or reject depends on your needs.
