No VMTools availible in EXS 4 i, where's the good old windows.iso?

Configuration: Dell 2950 with esx 4 i installed. Clean install, NO upgrade. I use the Vsphere client, NO Virtual Center Server I made some new Windows VM's, like w2003/Xp/W2008/Vista etc. After the install I wanted to Install the VMTools the normal way but when I tried this I received this message/error telling that he cant't find the windows.iso in the normal directory. It seems that the VMTools isos are not installed with ESX4 i. What do I do now? I don't want to use VCS (no license) Is there a special version of the VM tools in EXS4 i, ho do I get it and how do I use it?

When I use the "VSphere Host Update Utility 4.0" I have the opportunity to Add an EXS Upgrade Package file by using the browse button. He is asking for an ZIP file but I have no zip file with the approriate package.

any suggestions?

Paul

The ISO images for VMware Tools will be installed with ESXi 4.0. If you have console access you can check for them here - /store/packages/4.0.0/vmtools/.

Hello,

THere also exists a separate ISO that just contains VMware Tools.

Ha Dave,

Sorry for my late reply. Anyway, in the meantime I was able to install the VMtools the normal way. The strange thing is that I updated the VM's and rebooted the ESX4i and the VM's. On one of the VM's I went to "edit settings/Opions/Vmware tools / advanced and I checked the "check and upgrade Tools before each power-on" Afterwards I was able to install the VMWareTools in al my VM's. I don't no if this was the actual solution but anyway, the problem is solved. By the way, you make me curious about console acces to esx4i. When I login to ESX4i locally I have the possibility to alter some basic things like IP-settings but I'm not able to browse the directories. There's no SC and putty is not working so how do you get console acces and the ability to browse the directories with esx4i?
