Hello,
We have som strange problem with networking on the guests and host.
The host is having an Intel PRO/1000 GT Quad Port Server Adapter which we have on 5 other hosts too operating without any problems. The problem is that 2 of the 4 ports on this adapter are not working. They are operational for a short while after reboot of the host, but after a while they "get" disconnected. The problem is that the host still thinks they are connected (connected state in VIC) and guests are located to them and we lose network connectivity on the guest.
Looking at the switch side the two ports are in a disconnect state and we have no link-light on the switch and host. There are no errors in the switch-log. It doesn't help changing the cables or switch. We've done all the basic troubleshooting in other words.
Two questions:
1. Why do the two ports work for a while after host reboot and what triggers them to stop working?
2. Is it likely we are dealing with a faulty network adapter?

Hi, I know this post was from a long time ago - but did you resolve the problem as I am seeing a very similar issue ?
Thanks.
We have this issue as well, in our case it's the "Tx unit hang" bug. Take a look here: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=73733
If you also suffer from this please file a SR...maybe if more people complain about this issue vmware will speed up patching it.
The Intel quad port adapters (other manufacturers too) need a lot of power and therefore don't work reliable in every system.
You could try and plug them in a different PCI slot (sometimes this helps).
In this case the card was just broken. We got a new one and it worked.
