Missing VMDK with -flat.vmdk

I have a esxi that has a missing vmdk file so the virtual server will not start. I see a "servername"-flat.vmdk and I was wondering if I could just rename it to the "servername".vmdk ? Will this allow the virutal server to start ?

renaming the file will NOT help you !

Do you have any vmware.logs ? - if yes post them - I can create a vmdk from scratch with that info from the logs
