Migrating Redhat ES4 to a VM

Hey Everyone,

We have a physical server which is around 110GB capacity running Redhat ES4. Around 95GB of data is stored within the /var/ folder. What is the best way to migrate this server to a VM without the /var/ folder?

I also wish to do this with downtime if possible but open to suggestions..

Cheers,

Mark

Delete the offending data in /var and send it over?

Yes, I did think of that but I cannot do this due to several reasons. Is there a way of excluding this somehow? Has anyone tried using rsync?

Regards,

Mark

Thats gonna be tough. Your best bet might be to build a new VM then rsync the appropriate data over.
