Microsoft SQL Server, Enterprise Edition, CPU-licensed inside ESX - How does it work ?

Hi,

We are planning on running 3 SQL servers on our ESX-box with 2 physical CPU's.

Question :

- Can you license 1 physical CPU with an SQL Enterprise CPU-license and run additional SQL servers on that physical CPU for free ?

- ... or do you have to license all physical CPU's in the box with SQL Enterprise CPU-license to run additional SQL servers for free ?

Brgds.

SQL Ent is licence per host, per socket. Once that is done, you can run unlimted SQL Ent instances on that host. vMotion is different..but suffice to say that allsockets need licences is you intend on this feature.
