Memory issues

I've noticed in VMWare that while the total of all of my files memory usage adds up to 16 GB, the "Local Disk (C:) Properties" is showing a 25.3 GB used. Does VMWare take up the space, or is there a memory allocation problem within the virtual machine?

Are you talking about memory or disk space?

What VMware product are you using?

I am referring to disk space. I set aside 30 GB for my virtual machine. I am using VMWare Fusion on Mac OSX (Leopard) and running Windows XP SP2 in the virtual machine. I have gone through and looked at total disk usage of all files, and there is around 10GB that is not actually used anywhere but is not accessible for some reason.

If you are talking about "hard disk" memory then Vmware does create config files which are above the alloted size of the VMDK (size of the VM). Also snapshots take up more storage then the normal VMDK. Look for snapshots.

I have actually erased the snapshots of the VM. Do these config files take up space on the alloted bit of disk space that is given to the VM or are they stored on the host OS's filesystem outside of the virtual machine?

I did find about 6 snapshots and have deleted them, yet it still is showing 8 Gb free where there should be 14. I did not see deleting old files complete as the program was not responding. When I closed and reopend the program the snapshots are gone yet they appear to be hung up somewhere. Please help with detailed instructions.

Thanks
