MSCS questions

I'm in the process of adding raw disks to my 2 nodes that we are clustering. I want to add 4 raw separate raw disks to these 2 nodes. 1 quorum and 3 data disks. Do I need to create a new virtual device for each raw disk? Meaning that I need to use a pci slot for each disk? I have added a raw disk using scsi(1:0)and with phyiscal attributes and both servers see it fine, i try to add a second disk under the first one using scsi(1:1) , the first node sees it but when I try to add it to the second node it doesn't see the disk when i browse.

any ideas????

thanks

You don't have to set up a seperate device for each disk, just that the shared disk should be seperate from the non-shared system disks. You should have your C: drive on scsi0:0. The 4 raw disks can then be scsi1:0, scsi1:1, scsi1:2 and scsi1:3. They need a seperate scsi device because you have to enable sharing on that device on each virtual machine, and you don't want to share you system disk.

After you assign the raw disks go to the SCSI Controller 1 device in the first Guests settings and set the SCSI Bus Sharing to Physical (if the guests are on seperate hosts). You should then be able to add the disks to the other guests and set the sharing the same way. Remember to only have one node up at a time until you get the clustering done.

The guide for ESX3.0.1 and VC2.0.1 is here but I cant seem to find the one for 3.5 and VC2.5 - probably staring me straight in the face, but its home time so I'm off to the pub Smiley Happy

i have the document it says to select scsi(1:1) as my next disk, I select that and the second server still can't browse to the second disk, that is why i'm wondering if i have to setup each disk individually?

thanks

i added my first disk as scsi(1:0) and both nodes see it. I added another disk as (1:1) and the first node see it but when I browse with the second node it doesn't show up in the browser window. the disk is there because I can use winscp or putty and its shows as a vmdk but will not show for the second server when I go add an existing disk. It is set to physical.

any ideas why it won't show when i go to add it as an existing disk?

Hello,

Moved to VI: Virtual Machine and Guest OS forum.

Review http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/vi3_35_25_u1_mscs.pdf for assistance with this.
