Lost connection to Exchange during tools update ?!

I have upgraded the VMware tools on our Exchange VM this morning.

When the tools came back with "you have to reboot your system" I answered no.

The server was still running and all services were still started.

However, all outlook clients lost connection to the exchange server.

My only way out was a reboot.

Could this have something to do with the replacement of the NIC driver ?

On another server, I had the VMware tools changing the NIC driver and suddenly my NIC was configured for DHCP instead of fixed IP but that one was less important than this central 500+ users Exchange.

It does sound like the NIC driver was replaced during the VM tools upgrade, and this would have caused the dropout in service to your Exchange users.

It was not a temporary dropout.

I had to reboot the Exchange server.

A poor choice of words, i meant to say that the upgrade resulted in a loss of service.
