We have been noticing that our Linux based VM's that are part of our Windows 2008 domain are having their DNS records removed from DNS. This is not in the way our record purging is configured. Linux VM's that are not part of the domain do not have this problem. Likewise our physical Linux servers that are part of the domain do not have this problem. It seems to be only linux vm's that are made domain members. We are running esx 3.5.
Any ideas?
Are these static DNS records?
Where these records created manually? If not, do so. Manually created DNS records shouldn't be deleted.

They're not static entries. Yes we could do this but why is it only thr vm's having this problem? our physical linux machines setup in the same manner do not have this problem. That is what I am trying to get to the bottom of.
I would guess that your issue lies in the ongoing DHCP process. For some reason the VMs are not reregistering at the end of their lease period, or that traffic is blocked. In any case unless you have an overiding reason not to make the entries static.
