Hi,
I have four ESX HP blade servers in a datacentre connected to both storage and shared LUNs.
All of the VMmachines are win 2003 ser 32bit. Only recently I've needed to add a win 2003 ser 64bit machine. After eneabling VT on all the esx servers there was no problem creating a 64bit machine. However the 64bit machine can not ping (talk) to anything on the same subnet a win ser 2003 32bit Vm machine resides on on the same ESX host. All the settings on the 64bit machine are identical to the 34bit machine.
Any tips or help would be greatly appriciated.
Many thanks,
Egg
I can only assume there is a problem with the vmware tools in the 64 bit vm. Have you tried a reinstall? I have 32 and 64 bit vm's with 2003, and they run just fine.

Make sure windows firewall is not blocking snmp from coming back.

Hi Sorry but this did not solve the issue.
Thanks for the response though.
This has also been checked to no avail.
What virtual network adapter is the 64bit VM using?
If it is the 64bit version of vmxnet try to switch it to e1000.
Hi,
It states "flexible" with no option to change! Currentley set to vmxnet
Shut down the VM and remove it from the inventory.
Open the VMX file in an editor and add the following line
ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"
Re-add the VM to inventory, power it on and try again (the VM should detect an Intel Gbit card)
Hi,
Did what you told me and found that the line was already in the file!
Most bizzare as all I did was add it back to the inventory and all works fine!!!!
Thanks for all you help.
Looks like the line was previously put in the VMX without removing the VM from inventory.
In this case ESX/VC ignore the change. And since the VM was using the flexible adapter the VM initially wasn't configured to use the e1000.
Anyway, as long as it works...
