your host seems to have 8 Gb RAM ?

but only 388 Mb is allowed to be used by VMs !

Did you configure it like this ? - if yes - that was not wise - please correct it.

If not ... then ...

Well please check this first

Host RAM =512 MB

VM RAM =388 Mb

How many memory is needed VM for the start of Solaris 10 ?

try to reduce the VM-memory to 256 Mb

if that still does not help reduce this

prefvmx.minVmMemPct = 50

to 10. That entry can be found in the config.ini

looks like you try to install Solaris 64 and your cpu does not support it.

Try this line in the vmx-file if my guess is correct ?

monitor_control.disable_longmode = "1"

With that line the installer should use the 32bit option

I set :

Required Files

File Description and Name Size

Solaris 10 10/09 x64/x86 DVD

sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso 2,444.69 MB

There is not a parameter - monitor_control.disable_longmode = "1"

in a vmx- file ?

yep - it does not exist per default - thats why the SolarisCD tries to install the 64bit version and LATER finds out the CPU is not compatible.

If you set that parameter before the install the Solaris-installer will not try the 64bit option at all

I've got exactly the same problem. I've been able to install and use W2K8 64-bit, SLES 64-bit as guests just fine. just trouble with Solaris. After checking the forums, I downloaded the lates Solaris 10 x86 is sol-10-u9-ga-x86-dvd and tried with that.

Here is my .vmx and vmware.log

Thanks!

you use sol-10-u9-ga-x86-dvd.iso - isn't that the 32bit version ?

Well I can;t find a specific 64-bit install for Solaris 10 x86 - there is only one iso at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris/downloads/index.html and according to the "Specifications" tab (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris/overview/specs-jsp-136480.html) :

Supported Platforms

Platforms

  • Sun UltraSPARC-based systems,

  • Fujitsu SPARC64 platform-based systems,

  • 32 and 64 bit systems based on AMD, Intel and VIA x86 CPUs.

unless someone can point me to specific 64-bit install bits?

Cheers

Thanks for your suggestion:

monitor_control.disable_longmode = "1"

It works for Solaris 10 x86.  Specifically sol-10-u10-ga2-x86-dvd.iso and VMware 8.0.4 running on RHEL 6.3 x86_64 using a PC with 64-bit VT extensions (model name     : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz)
