In vmdk and windows, addressing method other than PhysicalDriveX for rawdisk fullDevice?

In Windows:

When creating a vmdk that points to a physical drive, you can address the disk by this method:
.\PhysicalDriveX where X is the logical number of the drive in windows.

Is there any other way to address the disk drive? Windows addresses disks in many ways, by location and adapter number and target number and channel number...

I would like to directly access the adapter ports, but I don't know the syntax. Perhaps ARC pathnames like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)? Nothing I have tried has worked.

Thanks.

AFAIK VMware on windows understands either

  1. Extent description

RW 3072000 FLAT "filename" 0

or

  1. Extent description

RW 156296385 FLAT "
.\PhysicalDrive0" 0

Don't know any other way to specify physical disks
