How to move VM from Shared Store to Local ESX Server store.

Hi all is there any documents or way or utility we can move our VM from shared storage to local storage ?

I know with some SSH utility we can c the folder but can anyone send me a pdf file so i can see what steps involved.

With VirtualCenter, select Migrate and select the new datastore

Hi JC

Thanks for your reply. I dont have ESX with me its on customer site. do i need to power down the VM then right click migrate and migrate to available local storage ?

If i am not wrong.?

Several methods for this.

1) If you have VirtualCenter, shutdown the VM and do a Cold Migrate

2) You can use VMware Converter to do this

3) Shutdown the VM, unregister it from the ESX server and the disk file (vmdk) using vmkfstools -i and then copy the other VM files (vmx, nvram, logs, etc.) using the cp command or if you want to use a GUI use WinSCP or FastSCP. The register the VM by selecting Browse Datastore in the VI Client and browsing to the VM's directory, selecting the vmx file for the VM and then Add to Inventory.
