How to create a virtual machine from external hard disk

Hi All

I need to create a virtual machine (2003 server), i have a back up of 2003 server in my External Hard Disk?

I dont have a .vmdk file or .iso image , i have my server in my external hard disk, so How to create a virtual machine now.?

Is that a bootable OS you have on your external disk?

No it is not bootable OS.

Just a back up of the OS in the external hard disk, it has lot of other files as well

You may try this:

Attach the disk to a host, boot that host with the VMware Converter Cold CLone CD, if possible refer to the installation on the external disk and p2v it.
