How to clone physical server into vmware as virtual servers?

Hi,

I am running 3 physical IBM x366 Servers and all the servers has different applications like Mail, Webserver and Database Server. Is it possible to clone these servers into virtual machines ( without re-installing the OS,Softwares again)?

Thank you all.

Hello,

Yes it is possible, what you're looking for is VMware Converter.

This tool allows for converting physical servers (or others) to virtual servers. These virtual servers can then be run in VMware Workstation, VMware Server, VMware Player or VMware ESX (VI3).

Just follow the best practices when performing a conversion.

Also, if you perform a conversion, take care it is for the correct VMware product, as there is a difference between each of them. VMware converter is a free product, but will only perform conversions for the Desktop (VMware Workstation/Server/Player) products in its free form.

If you want to convert physical servers to ESX virtual servers, you'll need the Enterprise version.
