How to change Computer Name in Windows Sercer 2003 and 2008?

Hi,

I have a system to create, register and start vm clones. Now I need a method to change the Computer Name on the Windows 2003 and 2008 servers.

I am using vmrun.exe to register and start the clones. I believe this tool can do remote command on the vm servers. I need a batch file to change the name and reboot the server. And how to get vmrun to execute the batch file.

Regards,

Garry

Hello,

Moved to Virtual Machine and Guest OS forum.

vmrun only works if some of the isolation settings that are set for security reasons are not enabled on a per VM. instead I would use a runonce script.

Hi

Aren't you using the cutomisation tools in vmware to do this for you?Once you clone the machines you can just go through the customisation wizard and then save the steps so you can deploy quickly

Or you could obviously setup a batch file/powershell script to run sysprep which would also do the job for you
