How to cancel an Active Task?

How can I cancel an active task showing as "In Progress" on the task bar from the console of the ESX server? Is tat ok if I kill the task? would tat server the purpose?

And can I kill any process with any PID running on any VM?

Better try cancelling the task by right clicking it because doing this will rollback the changes took place till the time you cancel it. However if you kill it by killing service or pid then rollback will not take place and system will get modified depending on the task you were running.

and then I stopped and started VMware Virtual Center service on windows and it worked.
