General OS patching

We are coming up on a renewal for our patching solution.

We currently use Novell ZENworks for Windows and 3rd party patching.

Any suggestions on which solution to try?

We have 98% virtual servers and desktops, but we still have a few standalone boxes to patch too.

I know VMWare and SolarWinds both have solutions we might trial.

VMware used to have guest OS patching included with Update Manager, but it's not included anymore.

The appropriate tool(s) certainly depend on the operating systems you run. In case of Windows you may go with WSUS, ...

I've not used WSUS before, but after looking into SolorWinds, it works

in conjunction with WSUS. I'm wondering if I need to have WSUS anywhay,

why pay an extra $3000 on top of that?

Does the vmware protect use WSUS?
