I rebooted the machine and it went through chkdisk not can't ping. Getting that message on ipconfig /renew
tried netsh winsock reset .. nothing

Power down vm, delete the vnic and assign a new one.
After that configure it with your adress.
will try now .. crossing fingers.
i removed and re-added after powering it off. When i rebooted the IP settings were already there. Same result
Static adress or dhcp?
static . figured it out. It was due to 2 network adapters being assigned to that port group
