Failed to lock main memory file

If I hit 'CNTL-Z' eg to pause the vmplayer (host=linux, guest=WinXP), it writes the state to disk and exits.

But when I restart it, I get errors such as the following

Failed to lock main memory file "/mnt/shared_data/xp2/XP.vmem".

Error encountered while trying to restore the state of group memory from file "/mnt/shared_data/xp2/XP.vmss".

Any thoughts? As it happens this dir is mounted as vfat but I've used that with previous vmplayers/Debian versions. My current set up is a AMD64 box running vmplayer installed from the VMware-Player-2.5.3-185404.x86_64.bundle under Debian Lenny (64 bit)

This may/not be related to my other query:

I've been able to resume before (and isn't that using the .lck?)
