Error connecting : cannot connect to host esxhost (timeout)

Hi,

I have an ESX host that is running few VM. I know the VMs are running because i can connect to them using RDP connection, but when i try to use the "console" with my VI Client, i have an error :

Error connecting : cannot connect to host esxhost : (french error explaining it's a timeout) Une tentative de connexion a échoué car le parti connecté n'a pas répondu convenablement au-delà d'une certaine durée ou une connexion établie a échoué car l'hôte de connexion n'a pas répondu

Do you want to try again

I've check my network settings, and i didn't see misconfig and i've tried to restart the SC service, still in error ...

Any clue or idea ?

Thanks

If you do a "trace route" to your esx, can you reach it ?

Have you double check your network configuration both on your client and on esx ?

Are you sure you're not behind a firewall ? or are you sure your esx are not behind a firewall ?

Are you using DNS or host file ?

Post your network configuration, client and esx server

Bye

I can PING my SC, yes, because i can open VI client (port 902) but i can't open console on the VM (port 903).

The thing is I have VLAN IDs :

VSWITCH0

=> 1 physical Eth0 (VLAN tag 1/10)

=> SC (VLAN ID = None or 1, i've tested differents config)

=> VM Port group (VLAN ID = 10)

VSWITCH1

=> 1 physical Eth1 (no VLAN tag)

=> a 2nd SC (VLAND ID = none)

=> VM Port group (VLAN ID = None)

I can open VI client on both SC, but i can only open VM console with the 2nd SC ...

I don't think it's a routing problem because you can reach both SC.

I repeat, are you sure you're not behind a firewall with 903/tcp closed to the first SC ?

Post IP configuration for all interfaces and for the machine you are using to connect to both sc.

Bye

So, if I understand all you have :

SC1

175.144.4.5

SC2

175.144.4.9

and your PC have

IP : 172.22.149.16

Mask : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway : 172.22.149.2

What is : 172.22.149.2

is a firewall ?

Post the output of the following command from your PC :

ping 175.144.4.5

Bye

I think your problem is to have 2 SC ip addresses on the same network (175.144.0.0) - that is problematic IMHO.

Can you post following:

esxcfg-nics -l

esxcfg-vswif -l

I allready did those tests and the telnet 175.144.4.5 => timeout, so i configure 175.144.4.9 on the other ethernet card to make a try, and i can open telnet 175.144.4.9 903 from my PC ...

The difference between those cards is the VLAN ID configuration on the physical switch port and on the virtual switch

As I wrote you shouldn't have 2 SC on the same ip network - that would be your mistake.
