ESXi sockets and VM Sockets

Hi Experts ,

Just confused about the cpu sockets we assign to the vm. Is it a good practice to assign more sockets to a VM that is available on the ESXi host. For example if ESXI host has on 4 sockets; will it be good practice to assign 8 sockets to the VM running on this esxi host.

Regards

You should never assign more vCPU than the number of physical cores you have in your ESXi host to a single VM and another good practice is just start small (with less vCPU) and assign more vCPU just when needed.
