Hi All,
hope you can help shed some light on this one. Trying to diagnose a vendor application that is reporting network disconnects from 2 VM's within the same resource pool.
I'm not 100% convinced there is a physical disconnect, but where do I start the troubleshooting to point it back at the vendor?
Connectivity is from a Windows XP SP2 VM to a Windows 2003 R2 w/SQL 2005 VM.
VMware details: ESX3i Version 3.5 Build 120505
The XP Machine was previously hosted on a ESX 3.5 host, but moved to DEV 3.5i
Please advise what information might be needed to assist diagnose this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Moved to Virtual Machine and Guest OS forum.
I would first look for any snapshots on the VMs. Are the VMs on the Same vSwitch, different hosts, etc.

Why would snapshots be an issue?
I have a similar issue but from an application on a W2K3 Guest on ESX3.5 (110268) to a physical W2K3 Host with SQL 2005. The users are reporting application disconnects from the guest application on the VM to the Database.
When they do network tracing, the application and other tools only show a "failure to connect".
I looked and there is a snapshot. Why might the snapshot be causing the disconnect errors?
Hello,
A snapshot is a FIFO that contains all changed blocks, as they grow it takes many more processing cycles within the vmkernel to resolve each block. This extra processing requirements affect virtual switches, which are after all just software and require their own processing cycles, etc.
