ESX host configuration for 64bits OS

Hello all,

I may do a mistake somewhere as I can not manage to run an installation in 64 bits.

First, I have esx server 3.0.2 build 52542. Everything is running fine without problem.

I need to install for test purposes a rehat 10 in 64bits.

So, let say I use the wizard ( I tryed manually at the beginning but same result)

so, I select : Other OS64bits, select my datasore, which storage, where I want to plug my NIC ..etc .. no issues

I select my ISO file, connected it atboot time...

Now ...

I get the boot loader, press enter

get the vmlinuz loaded AND GOT

Your CPU does NOT support long mode. Please use 32 bits distribution !

which step am I missing ?

thqnks in advance

The host CPUs must support VT (or the AMD equivalent) and 64bit long mode.

According to the error the CPUs are 32bit CPUs.

If you have Intel processors, you'll need to enable Intel VT in the BIOS. This is usually disabled by default. You won't have to reconfigure / reinstall ESX but you should make sure you power down the server after the BIOS change to make sure it take. The setting may also be called Virtualization Technology in the BIOS. What sort of processors do you have in the server?

Hi

It s a test / dev server, so it s a low cost one based on a Asus P5NT WS card with a Raid controler 2820SA.

I searched in the BIOS, no option regarding Virtualization Smiley Sad
